Daisy Leadership Award

Alex Price

Alex’s journey with LSA started when she was introduced to LSA by a friend. Alex embarked on a meaningful volunteering adventure in 2019, accompanied by her 11-year-old son. In 2020, she took a significant step by joining the Parent Committee, showcasing her dedication to actively engage with the LSA community. However, it was in 2022 that Alex’s bond with LSA solidified. At the Volunteer Appreciation Reception, an encounter with Food Pantry volunteers ignited a new passion within her. What drew Alex into the heart of LSA was the profound interactions between staff and clients. This fusion of compassion and accountability deeply resonated with her, compelling her to become an integral part of this remarkable community. Through her weekly volunteering at the Food Pantry, Alex found profound fulfillment in connecting with clients and making a tangible impact on their lives. Beyond her dedication to LSA, Alex is a devoted wife and mother to two young boys. When she is not cheering for her boys from the field sidelines, Alex enjoys lifting weights, curling up with her dog and a good book, hiking and rock-climbing.

Daisy Community Partnership Award

David Reich, MD / Mount Sinai Hospital

LSA’s relationship with Mount Sinai began in the 1890’s, when the Little Sisters of the Assumption arrived in the Lower East Side of New York City. The sisters worked with Mount Sinai for decades, seeing and treating those in need. When the Lower East Side began to feel oversaturated with services, Mount Sinai encouraged the Sisters to move closer to East Harlem, where many of their referrals were coming from. Fast forward to the mid 1990’s, when Dr. Jeremy Boal spent a summer as a young medical student with Sister Susanne Lachapelle in LSA’s nursing program. He and other professionals from Mount Sinai were inspired to start a visiting doctors program, which led to years of collaboration across several of LSA’s programs. One of these collaborations led to the asthma project, which transformed into LSA’s Environmental Health Services program that we know today. Now, Mount Sinai is one of LSA’s strongest partners, committed in our mission to improving the lives of East Harlem residents.

David L. Reich, MD. President of The Mount Sinai Hospital and Mount Sinai Queens (New York City). Dr. Reich joined Mount Sinai in 1984. He is the Horace W. Goldsmith Professor of Anesthesiology and was Chair of the department prior to assuming his current positions in 2013. An academic cardiac anesthesiologist, he has published more than 200 articles, editorials, and book chapters. As a hospital executive, he has enhanced safety and quality by forming an institute for critical care medicine, rapidly deploying digital innovation tools including AI-enhanced clinical decision support, and leading in COVID-19 care and diagnostics. He is the executive sponsor of the Mount Sinai Center for Transgender Medicine and Surgery.
